Marsai Martin debuts Braided Jellyfish to The Little Mermaid Premiere

Hey, my fab style followers! You won’t believe the hair magic that was served up at the premiere of The Little Mermaid. Our beloved Marsai Martin debuted a hairstyle that’s got the whole town talking: the Braided Jellyfish. This might just be the most creative updo we’ve ever laid our star-struck eyes on!

Marsai, the darling star of Black-ish, has a known affair with braids of all kinds. In a chat with Allure last year, she confessed her love for braided looks, gushing over the simplicity they offer. “You just wake up, ditch the bonnet, and your hair is just chef’s kiss,” she shared. Despite her devotion to no-fuss styles, Marsai is no stranger to experimentation, which brings us to the Braided Jellyfish – a breathtakingly intricate half updo that has us all scratching our heads in wonder.

On the big day, Marsai graced the world premiere of The Little Mermaid with her presence, looking every bit the sea goddess in a daring brown gown with a dramatic slit and her hair styled into the now-famous Braided Jellyfish. This enchanting look featured medium-sized goddess box braids cascading past her hips. Atlanta’s own Kesh Kesh was the talented braider behind the look, with hairstylist Alexander Armand adding the final touch of finesse for the film premiere.

So, how did Armand transform these textured braids into a Braided Jellyfish, you ask? We wish we knew! The front half of the braids was split into two sections, each twisted into a circular shape and pinned at her crown. A few curly tendrils were left to tumble towards the front of her face. The swooped baby hairs along her hairline and the small tendril of hair shaped into a swirly loop at the center of her head added to the mesmerizing effect.

Of course, no look is complete without a bit of makeup magic. LA’s own Diana Shin painted Marsai’s face for the event, giving her lids a smoky, thin cat-eye and applying long, wispy lashes to emphasize her sharp eyeliner. The finishing touch? A nude brown hue on Marsai’s lips, pulling the entire look together.

The Braided Jellyfish is a hairstyle that’s as phenomenal as it is fitting for The Little Mermaid premiere. Although we suspect this look will be as fleeting as a shooting star, we’re already on the edge of our seats, waiting to see what box braid style she’ll rock next.

Until then, stay stylish and keep the Braided Jellyfish vibes alive!
